Resolved Question: Should the Police be spending £40,000 on a car when front line Officers are being cut?

Greater Manchester Police confirmed to the BBC that an Officer had written off a £40,000 car which they were thinking of buying. Do they need these sports cars when there are perfectly adequate quick cars for sale at cheaper prices, or does it arrive down to "boys and their toys"?.

Open Question: Bought a car from VA I am in NY and only one owner signed title ( two on the title) Should I send back?

I work at a campground and bought my pal's truck from him, he left the truck in NY for me but is active duty currently in VA. He just sent me the title back, I did not know his ex girlfriend was on the title and he only signed the title, so my question is In NY can I have only one signed person on the title to receive it on the road or would I need to send it back and have his ex girlfriend sign it also? He sent me a bill of sale that says only his name and how much he sold it too me for, is that going to be an issue too? Thank you! Ok its a 1990 GMC Sierra so I should be fine and it does say OR. Thank you guys didn't even look at the wording like that, just seen two people on it instead of one.

Open Question: what is the process when a car is traded in to a dealership?

We saw a vehicle in which we were interested. The sales guy said it had just arrive in. That was Sunday. Monday, he said is a busy time with oil changes etc, so the store only started cleaning it. He said it is getting new filters and a fuel induction. They had to over night one of the filters in to the dealership. Now it is Wednesday and it is still not ready to steer. Should I be worried there is a lot wrong with the vehicle, or should I be glad they are checking and replacing parts. this is a 2006 Ranger with 34,000 miles. Looks nice. This is a KIA dealership, which might explain the lack of Ford parts. Did I mention the price is 11k and change? Would I be better off paying more for an older tacoma with a few more miles?? The math says it was driven less than 20 miles per day on average.

Open Question: When does a collection agency report to the credit bureaus?

I was divorced a few years ago. In the divorce decree, it was agreed that we would put our home up for sale, since neither of us could afford it on our possess. I filed a quitclaim deed and my exwife agreed to do a loan assumption instead. Then she backed out and filed bankruptcy and the home foreclosed. My credit report says the loan is closed and was assumed by another party. My credit score never took a hit. Two months ago, a collection agency contacted me to collect on a 26,000 dollar deficiency from when the home was auctioned after foreclosure. I am settling it with them for $6000. They haven't reported anything to the credit bureaus yet. My question is: "When will they report the settlement?". I know I will take a hit on my credit report when they do. I decided this was better than bankruptcy since I just paid my car off( an asset that could possibly be taken from me in bankruptcy) and because I have spent the last 3 years paying off my credit cards off and am almost there. Thank you for your time. Forgot to explain that the settlement is a lump sum not a payment plan.

Resolved Question: What would be the motivation for a company NOT to list prices online?

There is a family owned store in my town. They have everything from electronics to appliances to furniture, can remodel kitchens, build entertainment centers etc. They have commissioned sales professionals to write up your order and can fudge prices to give package deals and discounts. So far so good right? Well I'm concerned that I can't find any pricing on their website. In fact when you talk to them, pricing feels a little fuzzy. I straight up told them, and I tell this to car sales folks too is I like to know my price upfront, before I waste the gas to arrive to your store or dealership and compare it against other prices and known invoices for complete transparency. My question: Why would a business not want to list or disclose every prices before I arrive into a store. In the name of competition, wouldn't you want to hold your head high and tell me that I can receive the same thing in their store at Amazon.com prices with free shipping and no tax? Side note, I noticed that this company is choosing new but more obscure models..stuff you can't exactly price compare to as well. Is that my imagination--or is that a tactic to stay competitive?

Open Question: Small claims question?

I recently sold a car to a person on Craigslist we met twice to look the car then to finalize purchase. I wrote a bill of sale stating that I sold the car to the man on the that he purchased it. There was no mention of warranty on the car. He took the car to a store after we had made a purchase agreement and he took ownership of the car and the store found problems I was not aware of. Could he have anyway to make me pay for repair costs?

Ok the Irs sent me a notice stating that I didn't report miscellanious income intrest on my 2010 tax return. So now there stating i Owe 1069 dollars to them. Open Question: Vehicle registration in Florida?

Hi there, I just move in from California. Bought a car (used) two days ago. I now have to take care of the registration next week. The dealer said it costs $400 + sales tax to register cars in Florida. Is that true? Coz back in California, you just pay a tiny amount and a 8% sales tax on the price of the car (that you can lower to a reasonable extent since there is no formal bill of sale in a used car). I need your input. Thanks a bunch

Why do we treat our planet this way? I was riding in the car and there was an open field for sale and soooo much trash there:( it was nasty! Florida is where I am now. One person is not going to make a difference. I mean I can pick up stuff everyday, but if I return day after day to trash it will be pointless if more than one person isn't helping.

Resolved Question: Bank made mistake on car loan transaction now wants me to pay - really upset situation?

We have a car owned by a distant relation, living in the same home. The car was below his name financed at Wells Fargo. Now he financed it again with a credit union bank and put both his and my name on it. The bank approved the loan, we signed a bunch of papers, things went thru. Yesterday they called stating they forgot to put the tax on the car. They said eventhough my relative's name is still on the car, but since he added my name to it, it is considered a sale, and that according to California DMV regulation, our relationship does not belong to a category for a tax free car transfer. They say we have to pay $1052 tax, either upfront or add it in the car equity into the finance. every of a sudden they want $1052, we are so unprepared, do not have such money to pay. It's outside of our plan and screws everything up. Now that the bank made a mistake, they approved the loan, documents signed, and because of their approval, we let go another great deal from another loan at other bank. Also, because of this problem, we also lose about $500 group car insurance discount per year(unique car insurance discount situation). What can we do to battle back with this credit union. They made a mistake not disclosing the tax to us and also did not add the tax to the signed transaction. We are really upset and want to battle back. Thank you.

Open Question: How to own 2 cars in the UK without having to insure both?

My pal is just about to buy a new car privately but hasn't attempting selling his current one yet. He's picking it up this Sunday and obviously would like to steer it straight away but cannot afford to insure 2 cars. If he cancels his current cars insurance he also won't be able to let people test steer it if they arrive to view it which obviously means no one is going to touch it with a barge pole and could be stuck with it for while. At the same time though, he doesn't want to declare his new car as SORN as it has literally just had 6 months tax put on it which he would obviously lose. His plan was to steer his current car around for a while first so that he can advertise "For Sale" signs but this would mean having to keep both cars insured to avoid having to declare his current car SORN and losing his tax. What can he do?

Resolved Question: How to drive CVT plus manual Car?

I want to buy a car having CVT transmission. Yesterday the sales incharge told me that it is actually CVT plus manual. I will receive the car in a week's time. May I ask those who have experience in such cars, how to steer CVT + manual? Can you shift from CVT to Manual during running? What is the benefit of manual with CVT? Thanks in advance. Thanks you both for answer...I don't want to tell what car I want to buy because I made a decision and don't like that somebody tell me that this car is not good...wish you don't mind. My question are 1) what is the benefit of combining both? 2) can we change the transmission while in motion? 3) what is the benefit from changing to manual and vice versa? Thanks whatever for your answer. Here I am having another question? supposed you are cruising at 100 km/hr and you change to manual 1 what will happen? One cannot be having 100km/hr in first gear in manual transmission...will the system change it by itself? And what is the benefit of changing to manual then?

Open Question: I want to work for myself but can't decide what to do?

At the minute I'm an out of work, out of school 18 year old. I've never had any desire to carry on in school or go to university simply because it just doesn't appeal to me, every I've ever wanted to do is to go out there and start making money. Little did I know when I was 14 that the world would be in such a horrible state by the time I turned a legal adult that more people are losing their jobs than gaining employment. It's got to the point where I have to take action rather than blaming the government, older generation, economies, businesses, bankers etc. and find a way to make money for myself. I steer a car and have a wonderful girlfriend who I want to make proud of me and who supports me through thick and thin, even though I'm the class clown with a chip on his shoulder and she's the A* student who loves puppies and cuddles she loves me unconditionally and the feeling's mutual. Now to looking for advice... I need to make money and need to make it for myself as there's absolutely no companies looking for what I'm qualified and experienced in. I have little specific skills and even less qualifications. I'm physically not qualified to do anything of note and have only experience in Sales Occupations, however, things I would consider myself talented at our, painting and decorating, manual labour, car valeting, driving, customer service and selling. I need help, I have £200 to live on for the foreseeable future, I live with my mom and her boyfriend so I'll always have a roof over my head but having nothing to do every day is beginning to effect my mental health. every help appreciated! Thanks!

Resolved Question: As an investor, if capital gains taxes were to double, would you A) invest more money, or B) hoard more money?

This is a long question, but I really want to know what the other side thinks on this one...not just talking points, but what is their objective behind their line of thinking? Investments already involve some degree of risk, so would you risk even more to receive back less? I sure wouldn't. How about the companies that make a profit from these investments through the sale of stock...would they lift more investment capital or less? In turn, do you think that could they hire more people or less? Sure, I've heard people say that these companies CEOs should be taking a pay clip anyways. Well, sure, that would be great, but they won't, because they don't have to. Loss of income through less investment in their companies will not accomplish this, they will just lay off more middle class employees like you and I to make up for the difference, and others will just go bankrupt, punishing everyone who works for that company. So bottom line, isn't trying to discourage investmentment through higher taxes as a way of punishing the wealthy just cutting off your nose to spite your face? Don't worry, the wealthy will stay wealthy, they are smart, and they know every the tricks, that's why they are wealthy to start with. And to compare today to the 1950's when taxes were high is ridiculous, without factoring in inflation, globalization, the loss of domestic manufacturing jobs, the huge World War that had just ended, and just the basic lifestyles of people in that era (1 car, 1 television, smaller home, MUCH lower energy costs for the average family back then). You can have higher taxes when people consume less and manufacture more...that was the case in 1950, and not the case today (not even close)...and adjusted for inflation, taxes were higher on everyone then, not just the wealthy. I would be thrilled if someone could give me a mature, reasonable explanation defending the economics of a policy that dramatically raises taxes on investment. Short of a preference for eventual government ownership of every private business in this country, I cannot fathom why this view would be preferred by anyone, because it would absoluetly kill free enterprise. Chuck - Exactly, and so would most of my money. Weise - What hoarded money does is NOT lose...your argument is based on the assumption that invested money always gains...but you can lose too...that is why it is called RISK. Why RISK when the reward is much smaller? I beleive that the capital loss write off maxes out at $3,000 a year...so the risk greatly outweighs the reward as it is now, and would be worse if capital gains taxes went up. Loss due to inflation is minimal, especially in bad economic times like now. Most of the investments I made in 2007-2009 are worth much less than the money I had saved in money market accounts paying about 0.25% interest (practically like putting it below my mattress). Another thing I forgot to mention is that you would look a big uptick (as we have seen lately anyways) in investment in precious metals and other tangible goods that could be bartered to avoid such taxes. So I guess what little I can take from my dissenters is that "wealthy people are every going to cheat the system anyways, so might as well screw everyone to the wall". I guess then, the only thing we can do, is have the government ban everyone from having personal assets totaling over a set amount...that'll receive 'em! LOL

Open Question: Buying a car in MD but I live in FL?

What is the correct way of going about this? I need an MD bill of sale, right? And does this need to be notarized or will the title/bill of sale suffice to register the car in FL? And do I need to obtain temp tags or is there some nice of grace period for getting the car home.... I'll be flying down there in a few days to buy the car and will steer it home... if your curious the car is a 1983 Mercedes Benz 240D that I am buying from a private party which has used it as a daily driver for several years and it has a very rare color combination, there literally isn't another one like this.

Open Question: Fundraising for school trip ideas ?

I am 15 years old, and i'm going on a school trip to America for ten days in a year's time. However, the trip costs over £1000. Hopefully, i am aiming to lift £750 to contribute towards the cost so my parents don't have to pay the full amount. I will be raising money with my pal as she is also saving for the same trip. Does anyone have any ideas where we will be able to keep the full profit? I'm already going to car boot sales and selling unwanted items on e-bay. I know selling cakes (like a bake sale) or holding some sort of stall (i.e face painting) in town halls/ church fares/ school fares would lift i substantial amount of money, although there are some problems..for example, there are now so many rules and regulations to follow when selling cakes in case anyone has an allergy ect.. however, i do really like this idea - but how would i receive in touch with the church/ town hall/ school? and is it very likely they would allow me to keep every the profit? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Resolved Question: Why didn't Obama's State of Union mention how well his Chevy Volt green energy initiative worked out?

General Motors' much-hyped Chevy Volt has yet another distinction to add to its long list of commendations. We had every heard repeatedly about Motor Trends' Car of the Year award, Consumer Reports' recommendation and Jay Leno's adore affair with the car, but the Volt now gets a less publicized, more deserved distinction from Yahoo Finance's 24/7 Wall road site. The Volt has made the list of "The Worst Product Flops of 2011" and apologists for the vehicle are sure to, once again, attack the credibility of those issuing the opinion. The Obama Administrations' favorite car has had a rough time of tardy with sales goals not being met, exploding cars at NHTSA and media exposure of the high cost to taxpayers regarding Chevy Volt subsidies and federal funding of township purchases. Considering every the money spent by GM to hype the vehicle, the Worst Flop award is well-deserved. Source: http://nlpc.org/stories/2011/12/29/chevy-volt-gets-another-award-gm-supporters-attack

Open Question: Any Legal Experts Wanna Help With My Argument?

I have a pondering question, although I won't be going to trial, I was actually offered a deal that doesn't cost me anything so i'm good to go. But court didn't go the way I planned at every, I thought i'd look a judge but no. So before you read, please be advised that these are facts, and i'm not looking for something stupid, this would be a question for somebody wanting to practice up some legal mumbo jumbo, so here goes. In the State of AZ if you cancel your insurance policy on a registered vehicle you must show proof of sale or new policy, otherwise they will suspend your license until you do so. I found this out because it happened to me, now twice! I came to TX visiting, I was pulled over because TX has plates in the front & az doesn't, the officer informed me of the suspension, but not to worry because although my priveledges in az are suspended, that doesn't mean another state can impose sanctions on me, so I was good & he let me go with this bit of information. To date, i'm back in TX as of november, I sold my car & got a new one when i moved, they hit me again with the suspension & I didn't even know it. I was pulled over by a city police officer who was NOT in pursuit of me, but pulled me over out of his jurisdiction in a neighboring city, one in which I found out he has no legal authority to enforce traffic laws or make arrests. So I confirmed my argument that the original officer several years ago had provided to me, plus consulted with two different attornies who told me that they have personally argued this same case successfully. Now I went to court, and saw some lady, not the judge, she has some knowledge of law, but she wasn't the judge, I think her purpose is to weed out as much traffic from the judge as possible, that's the impression I got. I brought with me in addition the actual TX state Title 7. Vehicles & Traffic Subtitle B Drivers License & personal id cards subsection, which I believe is what the attorneys may refer to but here's where I receive sketchy.....Sec 521.029 Operation of motor vehicle by new state resident (a) A person who enters this state as a new resident may operate a motor vehicle in tihs state for no more than 90 days after the date on which the person enters this state if the person: (1) is 16+ and (2) has in the persons possession a drivers license issued to the person by the persons state or country of previous residence". When I presented this argument to the lady, she persuaded me to believe, that's not what they meant, they meant to say a "valid license from another state" which is where I find it difficult to believe. I mean I actually skimmed thru this entire section of the transportation code & it was literally 50+ pages just on this section, so I find it difficult to believe that they meant what she said, just forgot to write it in. But being that she's in a legal position, and i'm in the medical field, she intimidated me into believing that I was wrong & she was right. So ultimately she successfully weeded me out, and i'm inclinded to believe that the attorneys that I spoke with who claim to have won this very case are correct. My only burden or proof was that I needed to provide them with substantial info showing I've only been here less than 90 days, in which I had it every prepared and was ready to go to trial. Any legal guys have any insight to what she was talking about, is this so called stuff that she's trying to claim is true actually written in something else, some other document, or is it in fact written in rock by what the trans code has? Whew, did you receive every that, lol. To top it off I was pulled over by the officer out of jurisdiction, he lied about my location stating that I was inside his city limits, when in fact I was over 10miles outside his town & he wasn't pursuing me, I know cuz when we passed him he was standing at somebody elses window writing them a ticket. He only got me cuz he was out hot-rodding his charger, and prolly passed his boss on the road, of course this last part is just me venting cuz i'm mad. Please actual legal ppl respond, I don't want to hear anything stupid, just a real legal understanding cuz i'm curious if the lady bamboozled me or not, on the bright side it didn't cost me anything, they were very understanding of my situation but refused to admit I was right. Ya gotta read amigo, here it is again since ya missed it. Plus my argument is what's written in the trans code, and she argues that's not what they meant, thus, the dilema. No mind reading, so no need to be a smart @$$ When I presented this argument to the lady, she persuaded me to believe, that's not what they meant, they meant to say a "valid license from another state" which is where I find it difficult to believe. any insight to what she was talking about, is this so called stuff that she's trying to claim is true actually written in something else, some other document, or is it in fact written in rock by what the trans code has?

Open Question: Is Simoniz Glass Coat Paint Protection worth buying?

I am buying a new car and I would like to keep it looking nice. The sales associate helping me buy the car tells me that they offer a premium Simoniz glass coat paint and DuPont fabric protection for $595. 2012 model year comes with a 7 year -can't fix it, they'll replace it- no deductible warranty for the paint, the seats and carpets. 2011 is 6 years, '10 is 5 years, '09 is 4 years. It covers a multitude of things, including: Sun Fading, Tree Sap, every Insects (they have acidity and eat away at paint after building up on grill, etc..) Fresh Paint, Road Salt, etc. The Fabric (or Leather) is covered from anything consumable, blood, urine, vomit, lipstick, soda's juices, road salts etc. The Dealership is very reputable, the salesperson was highly recommended, but I can't find any positive trusted 3rd party reviews. 1) Is this a quality product? 2) Is this worth $595 3) Is Zurich reputable? (warranties and insurance--the company who offer the warranty for the product and the vehicle's, extended warranty, gap insurance, life insurance, etc..) ???Bonus Question??? Should I buy an extended warranty for my new vehicle that is already equipped with a 5-year or 100,000 powertrain and a 3 year or 36000 mile bumper to bumper? I steer 15,000 miles a year and I plan on keeping it for at least 7 years.. (but nothing is for sure)

Open Question: Can a potential employer check my credit without my consent with no employment application & discriminate?

I had been in talks with a tiny company in regards to me taking over their sales department. We had discussions and offered me the job of Director of Sales pending a reference check for an official offer letter of employment for the Director of Sales position. I emailed him my three references he requested. He never called any of them. A week went by without any contact. I emailed him and he said he was waiting on a background check. After a couple more weeks from that answer, I sent some emails with no replies so I went to the office location. The owner was out of town, but the Vice President, that was in on the interview, said he would call him and ask him what the deal was. The VP called me back and relayed the information that my background check came back clean as a whistle, but the owner was not enthused by my credit history when he pulled my credit. I have a bankruptcy that was discharged a year ago from a car accident that resulted in $1.2 million in medical bills. My current credit is doing very well after my bankruptcy. He said that he would not offer me the position, but would offer me an entry level position instead. I have 7 years of industry experience which is much more than the VP and the Owner's experience in this industry combined. They said that my experience would help them improve their sales department and wanted to receive me started as soon as possible once they formulated a compensation plan. Even showed me where my office would be. I never signed any employment application, gave any of my information nor was I ever informed that my background or my credit would be checked. I live in Texas. What are the laws regarding this? Is this discriminatory? Is this worth seeking a lawyer and if so, what sort of lawyer should I search for? I know lawyers specialize in every different sorts of specialties so I wouldn't even know what to search for. Thanks everyone in advance! Go to snooze? Its 8:30 in the morning.... As for Facebook, I have had my Facebook fully private for the past 5 years for this exact purpose.

Open Question: What is the best thing to do if you were offered another opportunity?

I just recently got a job at a phone retail sales company in the mall (a kiosk job) and I've been working there for about three weeks. Today, a potential employer I've had an interview with left me a message to offer me a chance for another open position. She really enjoyed meeting me, therefore we always kept in contact. She wanted to give me an interview for another position. Should I try it out? What if I was offered this position, should I take it and leave my current employer? Keep in mind that the job interview is for a car dealership and is most likely an office job.
